The British Christmas tradition comes to Bleecker Street
Oh no it isn’t.Oh yes it is!
New York has no shortage of theater. What it has far less of is theater made simply for the joy of making it together.
Bleecker Street Panto is a volunteer-led community production, bringing friends, neighbors and first-timers together with experienced theater-makers, on stage and off.
Our first show is Cinderella. Proceeds will support New York charities, and everyone is welcome to play a part in making it happen.
Loud, joyful and gloriously interactive. Pantomime has been a British Christmas tradition for generations, and the audience is very much part of the show.
The room is on Cinderella's side from the moment she walks on, and every turn in her fortunes gets a roar.
Every villain's entrance gets booed to the rafters. The louder the boo, the better the show.
When a character can't see what the entire audience can, it's your job to warn them. They won't believe you, so keep going.
When the stage insists on something you know to be untrue, you argue back in unison until they give in.
An outrageous comic matriarch, traditionally played by a man in spectacular costume, who runs the room and talks to whomever she pleases.
About two hours, including an intermission.
Suitable for all ages.

There’s a job with your name on it.
Perform, paint, sew, build, usher, market, make up, move scenery or lend a hand backstage. Some roles need experience. Plenty don’t.

A "veteran" of London pantomime, most recently as Nana the Dog in Portobello Panto's Peter-bello Pan. He believes NYC needs more community theater, with a role for anyone, on stage or off. No producing experience whatsoever, but how hard can it be if we all do it together?
A Tony-nominated, Olivier Award-winning producer. Credits include Oh, Mary! (Broadway, West End, US tour), Well, I'll Let You Go and Pepper Slit! Live From Her Living Room (Off-Broadway). She grew up in community theater in Winnipeg, and believes everyone deserves a stage.
